- 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave nectar
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: Combine warm water and maple syrup in a small bowl. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Slowly pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the dry ingredients. Stir until the dough begins to form.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Dough: Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Second Rise: Cover the loaf pan and let the dough rise for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- For gluten-free bread, use a blend of gluten-free flours and add xanthan gum for structure.
- Sweeten with agave nectar or coconut sugar for a lightly sweet loaf.
